Family Raised from our Ranch to your Home!
Welcome to the home of Lay’s Ranch. We believe in being able to know where your meats come from and how it is raised.
We raise everything from birth to butcher out in pasture. In 2011 we started our own herd of cattle to raise for beef for ourselves and family. Through sharing the beef and having barbecues, many found the great flavor of home raised beef to be excellent. The flavor and to know where it came from and how it was raised, led to many asking us to raise beef for them. Hence, the beginning of Lay’s Ranch.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
Healthy ranching encompasses good land management and animal husbandry.
We utilize a pasture rotation grazing system. This is healthier for the land and the animals. It ensures our grasses grow strong, our ground doesn’t deteriorate, and our animals have healthy feed. We fertilize, seed new forage, and make hay on certain fields.
Our animals are NEVER given any growth hormones. They are treated as humanely and stress free as possible. We avoid use of electric prods and excessive harassment as much as possible. Our animals see us daily so that we can check on their health, keep them calm around us, and ensure none have succumbed to predators or sickness. I say all of this not because I’m an animal loving hippie, (though I do have some favorites, haha). I say this because, unknown to many, this all affects the flavor and tenderness of your beef and pork. Having an animal be stressed – scared, angry – means that just like us humans, their muscles are going to contract/tighten to prepare for fight or flight. They are going to release adrenaline and other hormones, again to prepare for fight or flight. So by having animals that are not stressed – scared, angry – means that the product you receive is not going to by tough in texture and tainted in flavor and the animal is going to be gentle and easy to handle.
